Let’s face it, if you are not a search engine marketing professional you might be having a hard time keeping up with the various algorithm changes that happen almost weekly at Google. For those of you who do not know, Google often changes their algorithm upwards of 500 times per/year and they are very consistent with their updates. If you don’t devote the precious time and energy into understanding some of these changes your search marketing approach could suffer.

You are not an SEM industry professional
There is a great deal of search content and material swarming around the web space but if you are not engulfed in the industry you might be missing some of the important pieces to read. Make sure you are reading credible news items so you know how to properly adjust your web marketing strategy.
You don’t really know where to look
Sure you can do a Google search and try to find some great content sources but what if you don’t even know what you are looking for? There are many blogs out there that do not even know what they are writing about so you need to find the right sources in order to keep your approach safe.

You feel like you know everything
There are a lot of deniers out there that think they know everything there is to know about Google search. If you think you know everything there is to know I am here to tell you that you don’t. Unless you are Matt Cutts (head of spam for Google) you can always use some search engine marketing education. You might understand a great deal but there are many important pieces of information Google never lets out into the public.
You are stuck in 2002
Are you still stuck in decade old search engine marketing techniques? Mass articles and 1 million business directories do not work any longer. Things have changed quite a bit and they continue to change. If your efforts do not seem to work any longer it might be time to adjust your web marketing strategy if you are still using techniques from years ago.
It is not your passion
We all know that when we are forced to do something we really don’t have any interest in the result is usually less than stellar. If search engine marketing is not something you are passionate about chances are it will not be as potent as you want it to be. Search engine marketing is something you really need to have a passion for otherwise you are going to really lose interest in pushing your skills to market your website.
Not enough time
We live in a world that is so faced pace we don’t have even have time to think. With that said learning and understanding proper search engine marketing techniques and Google updates requires time and patience. You have to be willing to try, track and learn in order to stay on top of the Google trends and updates.
