Steve Wynn is betting on an Australian bakery café chain called Pie Face. The casino and resort kingpin and founder and CEO of Wynn Resorts is investing $15 million into Pie Face to help the brand expand from its roots along Australia’s eastern coast.
Pie Face currently has one storefront in the U.S.—adjacent to the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City where the David Letterman shoe is taped. The company has already begun development of additional stores in Manhattan’s Murray Hill district, Penn Plaza and Chelsea. Pie Face intends to operate all of its New York City stores on a 24/7 basis.
Pie Face serves hand-made gourmet meat pies, sweet pies, sausage rolls, sandwiches, wraps, soups, mashed potatoes and gravy, quiche, pastries, muffins, cookies, brownies and other baked goods in addition to espresso and coffee. All of the Pie Face meat pies have cute little faces piped onto them that denote the flavors of the fillings. Coffee is roasted in Sydney and flown to New York.
“Having met the Pie Face USA management team recently and having visited their first store in New York, I came to the conclusion that they were bright people with a bright concept,” Wynn stated. “I look forward to backing them as they expand throughout Manhattan and across the United States.”
We are not sure how the phrase “getting pie all over your face” translates into Australian culture, but we wish Pie Face none of that bad luck.
