We gave you a preview of Levi Strauss' new "Commuter" series in this week’s “Hip-Stir,” but here’ a little more information, and some more photos. The line is designed to meet the needs of commuter cyclists, with reinforced features, stretch fabric, a utility waistband, 3M reflective tape strips, and even higher back rise, to prevent ‘underwear-revealing’ moments. The clothes also have utilized a sanitized technology to resist odors, and waterproofing technology designed to bead water.
Talk about utility clothing for the urban cyclist!
Of course, like most work gear, we expect the Commuter series to become popular with anyone wanting to keep a hipster vibe. The details are so cool. We think of them as a smart remix on the classic 511 line.
So, while the goods are tailor made for nighttime city streets, and rain-splashed avenues the slim-fitting 511 jeans, trucker jackets and workshirts should quickly be seen on dudes hanging out at the corner coffeehouse, or vegan bakery.
We like how the line draws on Levi’s workwear heritage, and builds on their durability reputation using cutting edge technology. The 3M reflective lining on the cuff is cool, as are the water-resistant denim, but we particularly like the cell phone pocket, and the “stretchier” denim which becomes more comfortable over time. We’re unsure about the need for the extra protection sewn in around the crotch area—but I guess that’s a urban cyclist-chic added touch.
