AUTOROTICA: Midcentury Lincoln

The automobiles of the 1950’s and early 1960’s exemplified the post WWII era filled with technological innovation and optimism. It was a highpoint of American’s desire to live the American Dream—filled excess. The “big mettle” and the “land yachts” of the 50’s and 60’s boasted the first automatic roofs and windows, powerful engines and trunks the size of small homes. And, don’t get me started on the reach-for-the-sky tailfins of the era.

The automotive company Lincoln, alongside Cadillac, boasted the most luxurious of the luxury American cars of the day. Here are a few of our favorites. (photos via Lincoln Motor Company Tumblr).
