New York City-based Zach Glassman was born in Montreal to an American father and Canadian mother. “My father was a travel writer, so the travel bug bit me early. My family would frequently take trips to Central America and we even had a ‘country house’ not in the forests of Quebec, but near a volcanic lake in Guatemala, where my parents first met.” He considers himself an entrepreneur, a photographer and a storyteller. He opened his website Passion Passport this year in an attempt to ignite the wanderlust that exists inside all of us and to demonstrate the transformative power of travel. The following images appear on his Instagram feed PassionPassport.
Garden of the Gods, Colorado
In June of 2012, fires were devastating many parts of Colorado. I was lucky enough to visit and shoot at this sacred location (and Colorado was lucky that this area was untouched by the fires).
A Hike to the top of Table Mountain – Cape Town, South Africa
A friend of mine and I were intending to hike to the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town. Unfortunately, we took a wrong turn and hiked to the top of Devil’s Peak, instead. At the end of the day, we got lost again on the way down. Luckily, we made it out of there just before darkness was falling.
All Lined Up in Giza – Cairo, Egypt
A merchant, who claimed that the camel belonged to him, berated me for taking this photo. He demanded 50 Egyptian pounds in exchange for me to keep the photo. I soon discovered that the camel didn’t belong to him; so naturally, I did not comply with his request.
Better Everyday - New York, NY
I was walking along the West Side Promenade in New York City with a couple of friends at sunset. Runners were flying past and I managed to time this shot while this runner was in midair.
Foggy Bridge - San Francisco, CA
There was some mystical fog when I visited Battery Spencer (near the Golden Gate Bridge) in April.
Marin Headlands – San Francisco, CA
Some beautiful fairy light seeped through the trees during an early morning shoot in San Francisco.
Mother in a Fog – Sintra, Portugal
My mother was once skeptical of Instagram and its role in my travels. After having joined me on photowalks and having posed for me all over Portugal, I think I converted her. This is a shot of her standing in the fog in Sintra.
Sail Away in Zanzibar – Zanzibar
A couple of friends and I were walking on the beach in Zanzibar when I shot this photo. Although it is quite minimal, I feel that it captures the spirit of ‘the voyage’ beautifully and inspires wanderlust.
