Ghurka, a company that makes high quality leather bags derives it’s name from Ghurka soldiers of the Himalayas, who since the days of the British Raj have been renowned for their bravery, loyalty, and cheerful indifference to all difficulty.
Although it may seem that a bag manufacturer is far disconnected from brave soldiers of the past, according to Pam Bristow the Ghurka Executive Vice President, it has to do with, “Authenticity. We are not trying to reinvent the wheel or get on the hamster wheel of fashion. We create impeccably made, sophisticated and classic leather goods for a discerning and quietly confident clientele.”
The bags themselves are made in the U.S. by leather artisans. The company committed to supporting the American craft trades as opposed to outsourcing production. The bags include a registration number printed in the logo letting you know the production year
Next year the Ghurka Regiment is celebrating its 200-year anniversary of service to the British Crown. “We are planning a spectacular partnership with the regiment to help commemorate this tremendous milestone," Says Pam. "Stay tuned. It's going to be great.”
