Political Cartoonist Karl Lagerfeld sketches for Elle

On the heels of his scandalist remarks that singer Adele is "a little fat," comes word that Karl Lagerfeld will comment on the French presidential elections, and other political opinions as cartoons for French fashion magazine Elle.

While a fashion designer penning a political campaign cartoon may seem odd at first, consider that a designer's fashion sketches are simply illustrations, as are political cartoons. And, Lagerfeld has proven himself irreverant and controversial over the years, so illustrating his opinions seems like a logical extension.

"Karl's Eye" will be published every Friday leading up to the April elections. “L’Oeil de Karl” (“Karl’s Eye” in English) will take an "impertinent and un-politically biased slant on the political climate," according to Elle editorial director Valérie Toranian, “The first sketch in the series features all the presidential candidates wrapped up in scarves in their party colors, with a caption that translates as "Wrap up warm and be careful not to lose your voice."
