She’s tackled cable television, interactive television, blogging, writing, photography, and speaking. Mugs Buckley is a woman for all media.
I met Mugs a dozen years ago when we were both working to launch a new television network and online site focused on technology and the Internet. The moment I met her I saw her amazingly understated intelligence, insight, passion, and ingenuity. She doesn’t hit you over the head with it, but it all seems to just seep out of her.
Yes she goes by Mugs (officially, she’s Margaret Mary Buckley) but the name seems perfect for the singular individual she is. It is quite befitting that she’s called by this unusual nickname…she’s one like no other.
Mugs is a quintessential Connecticut Yankee, raised in a hard-lovin’ Irish family with two sisters and a brother. “I’m of Irish descent, and in my case that translates into having light skin, strawberry blond hair, being mouthy, and having parents, siblings and cousins whose humor rivals few,” she says.
Mugs has gathered livelong friends from her early years at Catholic School, through to her time at Tufts and Harvard. Yes, she’s a Harvard gal, but you’d never know it from her approachable demeanor.
After starting her career with a six-year stint as an Executive Producer at Discovery Communications, Mugs decided to move West and join the technology revolution happening in the San Francisco Bay Area. She’s worked at TechTV, RespondTV, Libertate, and Comcast Spotlight. Currently, she’s lending her talent to Federated Media Publishing as Vice President of Sales Development.
Mugs is also the author of the blog The Somewhere, were she gets to share stories of her travels and her friends, and showcase her amazing eye for photography. (She's even profiled my dog Gracie a couple of times, here and here).
“People’s stories let me travel vicariously through the words they tell. They take me somewhere…And, along the way, I picked up a camera and started shooting and capturing the places I’d go, the smiles I saw, and the beauty that abounds, just about everywhere.
Mugs is also writing for THE FIVE, where she’ll share her storytelling talents, passion, intelligence, ingenuity and insights as she profiles interesting creative professionals at the intersection of creativity and commerce.
We’re so happy to be part of the Mugs omni-media experience.
