Last year, cardiothoracic surgeon, author, television host and Oprah tribesman Dr. Mehmet Oz and his writing partner Dr. Michael Roizen created You Beauty, a website exploring the link between beauty and health in a fun, factual way—an editorial site filled with articles and expert commentary.
Now they’ve created Beauty Sage, an online store selling only beauty and wellness products that they say are proven to deliver on their claims. The site offers bath and beauty, skincare and hair products, as well as fragrances and wellness products. To curate offerings that deliver on their promise, they use editors who sift through products, chemists who check all claims, and offer user-generated reviews from customers.
Here is how they explain it:
1. Editors choose the best brands
At YouBeauty, we write about beauty every day, and review hundreds of products per month. Our seasoned beauty editors handpick the cream of the crop to be sold at BeautySage—the products that impress us, and have worked for us. The next big things in beauty.
2. Chemists test all claims
Beauty products claim to move mountains, but can they? That’s where our chemists come in. Led by industry expert Ni’Kita Wilson, our chemistry whizzes analyze label claims and the ingredients behind them, confirming in the scientific literature that these ingredients really deliver. They also analyze claims like organic, natural, vegan and paraben-free, making sure you get what you pay for. Our claims analysis is an ongoing process, and any product that's passed has a claims tab on its product page. If a product fails, it's removed from our offerings.
3. Real women submit honest, relevant reviews
We’ve sent a select group of YouBeauty quiz takers product samples to try and review based on their quiz results—their skin type, hair texture, stress levels, sleeping patterns, etc. They’ll tell us if a product works for them. Reading the opinions of those with similar science will help you decide if it’s right for you.
By claiming a highly curated and tested product, and putting their cross-media celebrity brand on the line, Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen have a lot at stake to ensure a quality product. Check it out for yourself.
