THE FIVE SCOOP: WOODCHUCKcase Wraps Technology in Nature.

The folks at WOODCHUCKcase say they are all about re-igniting the human bond with nature. Their 100% real wood cases are American-made and designed to wrap Apple products in locally-sourced self-adhesive veneers of woods like mahogany, walnut and birch. They have products that fit Apple iPhones, iPads, MacBooks and the Mac Air.

WOODCHUCKcase  was founded about a year ago by University of Minnesota students Benjamin VandenWymelenberg and Kevin Groenjes. Ben was an architecture student, and Kevin was studying kinesiology. The two friends  share a passion for the outdoors and nature, and a belief that today’s society is very much wrapped up in technology without a reminder of the natural beauty around us. WOODCHUCKcase serves as that reminder to appreciate what’s been around forever: Mother Nature.

The idea for WOODCHUCKcase came to Ben one day as he was sitting in a university architecture studio drinking a beer and working late on a model project. He was working with wooden veneer and decided to throw some wood on his iPhone.  Needless to say, it looked pretty cool.  After showing it to friends and family and getting the nod of approval, Ben decided to do more with the idea. He called up a mentor to soak up some business knowledge and took the first steps to becoming an entrepreneur.

The company has grown quickly (they call it “lightning in a cannon”) and products are now available through Best Buy online, as well as other local retailers, and on their website. WOODCHUCKcase is scheduled to be available in Australia in the coming months, and hopefully in Asia by early next year.

The company sees endless opportunities for “Woodchucking” anything from phones, tablets, and laptops, to coasters, keychains, and bottle openers.

Being young and enthusiastic, Ben and Kevin call upon positive energy to get the job done.  They believe it makes a huge difference when facing adversity.  As it is in life and in business, things do not always pan out the way you prefer, but keeping a positive attitude and approaching problems as opportunities to learn and grow, has aided WOODCHUCKcase well in tough times.
