Changes at the top of the publishing world: Time Inc., Meredith, Conde Nast and Hearst all have new leaders

As another indicator of a generational/behavioral shift in the media business, the leadership at the top of the four major magazine publishers -- Time Inc., Meredith, Conde Nast and Hearst, has changed simultaneously for the first time in 15 years.

"This is the changing of the guard from an older school to a newer school," said Justin B. Smith, president of Atlantic Media. "It is quite remarkable that it took until 2010, 15 years after the arrival of the Internet, for a new generation of leaders to emerge."

The New York Times calls it the magazine world’s own Velvet Revolution— a quick change of hands with relatively little discord.
