As online news sites struggle with the issue of whether to charge consumers for content, New York newspaper Newsday has found an innovative solution to generating revenue while still offering free content to users.
In a one-month test case to showcase new site improvements, Newsday will have a sponsor-backed paywall drop, allowing free access to the site.
The Cablevision-owned newspaper has reportedly struggled to attract paying customers for its online content since it erected its paywall last October last year.
Free access is being sponsored by Radio City Christmas Spectacular, another arm of Cablevision.
