Mattel's Barbie Video doll is hitting the social media road for a four-day "cross-country vacay" this summer.
A new promotion for the new Barbie (who sports a necklace-based camera and LCD screen embedded in her back) will use social media to leave clues for her fans about her whereabouts in several cities during the Barbie Video Girl Scavenger Hunt that will take place from July 20 to July 23.
Barbie is scheduled to check-in at "a mix of fun and fashionable venues" and host live events in each location. Fans will need to follow Barbie on Twitter and Foursquare to receive clues about the location of the events. The first person who arrives at the secret location and shows the onsite Mattel production crew something pink, or amobile phone with a Foursquare check-in at the location or the originalBarbie tweet with the clue will be the location's winner.
Thirteen winners will receive a Barbie Video Girl doll worth $50. Onegrand prize winner will receive a doll plus an iHome Barbie pinkdocking station for iPod worth $125.
Now, here is the rub. Barbie fans must be 18 and older to participate. So, either moms and dads will be sclepping kids all over town, or "older" Barbie fans (who do not have court orders to stay away from children's playgrounds) will be joining in the fun.
