The Nissan Leaf isn't the first electric car--far from it. My grandmother was known to drive her electric car--rather recklessly if the stories are true, on the streets of Los Angeles in the 1920's.
But in its launch campaign for Leaf, Nissan North America is attempting to create a revolution--much like Toyota did with the Prius, towards making electric cars mainstream again. They're playing to the car’s impeccable “green” credentials.
The question becomes whether Nissan is marketing to the same sub-segment of the population who bought Prius'--the eco-conscious, or whether it will be able to expand this market to a broader population and get us all thinking about how we impact the environment during our daily commute.
